Lauren Tortil (née en 1986) est artiste sonore et doctorante au sein du programme EUR CAPS (approches créatives de l’espace public) à l’Université Rennes 2. Influencée par les sound studies, l’archéologie des médias et la philosophie politique, son intérêt se porte sur les processus d’écoute par le prisme des technologies sonores, et de fait, sur les interactions existantes entre ces médias, les êtres humains et non-humains et leur environnement sonore. Cette démarche se manifeste par une double recherche : une recherche iconographique et théorique qui nourrit sa pratique plastique (objets imprimés, installations, performances) avec le son comme matériau de prédilection. Depuis plusieurs années, elle s’attache par ailleurs à développer sa propre méthode de pédagogie sonore à travers la mise en place d’ateliers destinés à différents publics. Depuis 2021, elle anime le projet éditorial en ligne [wo:ks], qui prend la forme d’entretiens et de créations collectives avec des artistes autour de l’art sonore.
Son travail a été présenté dans plusieurs institutions culturelles en France, notamment au FRAC Île-de-France, au centre d’art Bétonsalon, au Centre Pompidou, à la Fondation Louis Vuitton, à la Fondation Pernod Ricard, à la Villa du Parc et au FRAC Bourgogne ; ainsi qu’à l’étranger, à la Biennale Son (CH), à la Nuit Blanche Kyoto (JP), au Musée d’art de Joliette (CAN), à la Sound Gallery (CZ) ou encore dans le cadre de la 11e Biennale d’architecture de São Paulo (BR). Par ailleurs, elle a été la lauréate de plusieurs résidences dont la Villa Kujoyama en 2024.

Lauren Tortil (born in 1986) is a sound artist and a PhD student at EUR CAPS (Creative Approaches to Public Space) programme at Rennes 2 University. Influenced by sound studies, media archaeology and political philosophy, she is interested in the processes of listening through the prism of sound technologies, and in the interactions that exist between these media, human and non-human beings, and their sonic environment. This approach takes the form of both iconographic and theoretical research, which feeds into her artistic practice (printed objects, installations, performances and workshops). For several years, she has also been developing experimental methods of teaching sound through workshops. Since 2021, she has been running the online editorial project [woːks], which consists of interviews and co-creations with artists about sound art.
Her work has been shown in several cultural institutions in France such as the FRAC Ile-de-France, the art center Bétonsalon, the Centre Pompidou, the Fondation Louis Vuitton, the Fondation Pernod Ricard, the Villa du Parc or the FRAC Bourgogne; and abroad at Biennale Son (CH), Nuit Blanche Kyoto (JP), the Joliette Museum of Art (CAN), the Sound Gallery (CZ) or during the 11th Biennal of Architecture of São Paulo (BR). She has also been awarded several residencies, including the Villa Kujoyama residency in 2024.
